Face moisturizers

I’m obsessed with oil-free moisturizers and the 2 I’m currently using are Dermalogica Active Moist and Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for combination skin.

The Dermalogica Active Moist moisturizer (S$111) has been my favourite for the last year. I discovered in London but Its quite hard to find in Singapore though and only a few places like Suntec City and Plaza Singapura offer it. I get the larger tube that is 100 ml as it’s so much more worth it than the smaller one and you can still travel with it.

It’s an oil-free lightweight moisturizer that hydrates combination skin and it contains silk amino acids and a unique combination of plant extracts that help improve skin texture and fights dehydration. Natural botanical astringents of Lemon, Cucumber and Burdock help to refine the skin as well. It’s also gluten-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free, vegetarian and does not contain any artificial fragrances and colours. It’s apparently best when used following the Multi-Active Toner.

It comes in a grey box and a white tube, the standard colouring of all the Dermalogica products. Nice and simple. And I have to say it is one of the best moisturizers I have ever used. I started using it last Winter when my skin was really dry and difficult to manage. The moisturizer itself is light yet creamy and immediately hydrates and plumps up your skin. It has also cleared up any dry patch on my skin really quickly. And it has never caused any breakouts for me and seems to calm my sensitive skin. I love the fact that it’s an excellent make-up base as well. It’s great for applying under your foundation. And even when I’m using acne treatment products that really dry up my skin, the minute I put this moisturizer on my foundation goes on smoothly and doesn’t look cakey. LOVE IT.

I have also been using the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for combination skin several times in the last few months. It’s a much less pricey option and it’s really easy to find.

There is also another variation of this for sensitive skin which actually might have been more suitable for me. And there are also variations that come with sunscreen, spf 15 and spf 35, which is interesting as well. It’s always good to have sunscreen in either your moisturiser or foundation to protect your skin from premature ageing.

It comes in a simple white box with splashes of pink and blue, pretty. And the bottle which has the same colouring comes with a pump and is 118 ml.

It’s non-comedogenc (doesn’t clog up your pores), hypoallergenic and fragrance-free.

It has a greasy feel when applied to the skin and never seems to be absorb into the skin too well. It always feels like there is a layer of it sitting on my skin. It does moisturize my skin but not much as it’s very light. Also I don’t find it a good make-up base for me, my face just looks dry and cakey with make up over it. I prefer the older oil-free Neutrogena moisturizers that were cheap but were quality products.

Overall I love Dermalogica Active Moist and it is my go-to moisturiser. It manages to moisturise my skin even in the driest climates and it never breaks me out. Plus it’s the perfect make-up base. Will definitely be using it in London this winter! I really do not like Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture though and I found it greasy and uncomfortable on me every time I used it. It was also way too lightweight for my skin and didn’t like how it looked under my foundation. I definitely won’t be getting it again in a hurry. X
