Jonathan Adler is one of my favourite furniture shops, I love the modern American glamour that their stuff oozes and eclectic charm. There is also a surrealistic twist in his artwork that always brings a smile to your face. I love the fact that he doesn’t take his designs too seriously, has so much fun with them and is sometimes sooo naughty with a “99% classicism and 1% witticism” secret formula.
Whenever I go to the UK or Thailand I always make sure I buy back some something from Jonathan Adler because they don’t carry his stuff here in Singapore. I love his animal sculptures and was deciding between the dog and the walrus. I ended up buying the white dog at 60 Sloane Avenue for S$140 (60% off) when I spent Christmas in London and was happy that I got it! He is such a cutie. And I got the black dog in Bangkok at CentralWorld shopping mall for S$140 (60% off). He is gorgeous. I’m really upset that they are closing their Bangkok shop. I am obsessed with them and think they look fantastic at the entrance of my door. I have named them Michael and Jackson. Teddy is still quite weary of Michael and Jackson and never gets too close to them, but I am sure he will accept them eventually.
I also got the fabulous banana vase for S$80 (full price) from London. I love bananas and vases so what could be better than a banana vase? I just have to find the perfect flower for it- I think a sunflower would be ideal.
Definitely check out Jonathan Adler’s shop if you ever get the chance to, I’m sure that like me you’ll find it hard to leave empty-handed! x
Meditation is the practice of turning one’s mind to a single point of reference. You focus on being present instead of being distracted by all the thoughts and feelings that usually fill your mind. You don’t turn off these thoughts and feelings, but instead learn to observe them without judgement.
I think the first time I ever heard someone talk about and recommend meditation I was amused. To be present for a period of time and just focus on your breath sounds odd and probably a waste of time right? How would that be enjoyable or beneficial in any way?
When I tried meditating for the first time I really struggled to focus on my breath, all kind of thoughts were coming in and distracting me. And I was really surprised at how difficult it was. It’s funny though I read that the more you struggle to meditate the more you need to.
The more I meditated, the easier it got. Learning how to meditate is just like learning any other skill, you need practice. And the more you do it, the better you get at it. I think of it as a mental gym. So many people want to stay physically healthy and exercise at the gym regularly. But how many people make mental health a priority and exercise their mind regularly?
I actually only meditate for 10 – 15 minutes a day at the moment which I think is good enough, for now. Plus if you just commit to a short time period everyday you’re more likely to follow through with it. And you get a ton of benefits just by setting aside just a few minutes a day to meditate. After each session I usually feel a sense of calm and peace that I’ve pretty much become addicted to.
Some Benefits of Meditation
Improves immune system
Reduces blood pressure
Helps depression, anxiety
My personal goal is to create an inner calm and inner acceptance that will be constant through the ups and downs of life, and to have a balanced healthy mind.
There are lots of great apps that can help you get started with meditation. My three favourite ones are Headspace, Calm and The Mindfulness App. I am currently using Headspace that’s my favourite and I find it amazing! I bought a one month subscription for unlimited access to the Headspace library for USD95.88. It offers mini meditations, themed meditations, mindfulness exercises, sleep meditations, headspace for kids and an even a super cute animation library. I would definitely recommend checking out these apps, giving meditation a go and discovering all the benefits for yourself! X
I love home decor. Whats there not to like about buying pretty things that make your place uniquely you- I mean thats what really makes a house a home. And our home should be our sanctuary, our happy place.
My boyfriend and I are looking at getting our first place and its taking ages to find the right place that ticks all our boxes. But in the meantime we’ve already started building up our home and it’s been so much fun!!
One of my happy buys this month has been the small popcorn bowl from Crate and Barrel at Ion in Singapore for S$12.95. Crate and Barrel is one of my favourite home stores in Singapore- they sell some really nice items. And I’ve been wanting this bowl for awhile even though I don’t eat popcorn lol.
Another shop I love in Singapore is Kikki.K at Ion, they’ve been having a big sale and the place has been crazy packed. I love the stuff there and how lots of their products focus on mindfulness and positivity. Everyone definitely needs a bit of that in their lives. I got this matching set of candles and mug from Kikki.K. The candles are 50% off at S$27.45 and the mug is S$10. They are a lovely red and pale pink and would brighten up any area of your house. I adore candles they add a touch of tranquillity to any space. These candles have a cute fun twist, the pink ones are covered with leaves, ladybugs and birds and the red one says ‘you glow’. How cute!! The scents are Clementine & Honey, Sandalwood & Ylang ylang and Peach blossom. Very exotic- my favourite is peach blossom. The candles are supposed to burn for about 13 hours each. The pale pink mug says ‘life is wonderful’ and has a red cup holder. Feel good quotes are always a nice thing to have around the house to keep you positive especially when you’re having a bad day.
I got this beautiful crystal candlestick from John Lewis in London when I was there a few weeks ago. John Lewis always has all kind of gems and they deliver some items internationally. This candlestick was also a sales item and got it at 50% off at £20 which I think is definitely a steal. I love this luxurious statement piece which will transform any dining table!
I also got this gorgeous book ‘Paris from a fashion eye’ by Megan Hess from Harrods in London for £12. You can also get it from Kinokuniya at Takashimaya for S$32.10. Paris is one of my favourite cities it really is the city of love and the city of style! This book is so chic and cute and the white cover with splashes of colour is sooo pretty. It’s divided into Play, Sleep, Eat/Drink and Listings. And I’m obsessed with the beautiful detailed illustrations inside. It really does add that je ne sais quoi to any coffee table!
And last but not least is this heavenly rainbow coloured Molten Brown bath and shower gel setfrom Gatwick airport that I got at £13 (it was on sale too). I love Molten Brown products they’re so luxurious and always so aesthetically pleasing. And lots of their stuff are really colourful and fun too. I love the colours of this set and the luxe silver caps. The various scents are Coco & Sandalwood, Delicious Rhubarb & Rose, Jasmine & Sun Rose, Heavenly Gingerlily, Rosa Abso, Vetiver & Grapefruit, Bushukan, Coastal Cyprus & Sea Fennel, Tobacco Absolute and Russian Leather. They would look perfect in any bathroom and I can’t wait to try them!
So these are all my January home décor buys, hope you like them as much as I do! X
